                 Ohio CPM Society sets annual conference

                An awards presentation, public records discussion and updates on society progress will be highlighted at this year’s Professional Development Conference – “Essentials of Leadership” – sponsored by the Ohio CPM Society in partnership with the Ohio Certified Public Manager program (OCPM).

                 New Ohio Certified Public Manager cohorts forming

                The Ohio Certified Public Manager program ® (OCPM) is accepting applications for five new cohorts which will begin this fall and spring at five state colleges and universities throughout Ohio.

                The 2007-08 edition of the training catalog for state employees is available online at http://www.das.ohio.gov/TrainingCatalog. Blueprint for LifeLong Learning: A Guide for Your Continuous Improvement and Professional Development includes quality training programs created through partnerships with nationally known professional development organizations as well as Ohio universities and colleges.

                 Learn how to take charge, handle conflict

                To help meet the challenges of implementing the Ohio Administrative Knowledge System (OAKS), the HRD Office of Training and Development is offering several free sessions of its Taking Charge of Change and Handling Conflict courses. The courses, which are part of the People Matter Series, are held on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

                 OCPM program honors 43 new certified public managers

                A mayor, city project managers and leaders from 17 state agencies and municipalities graduated from the Ohio Certified Public Manager program (OCPM) on March 24 in Columbus.

                 Boards and Commissions Consolidation Transition Team submits recommendations

                The transition team assigned to make recommendations regarding the consolidation of 20 Ohio regulatory boards and commissions submitted its report to the governor, speaker of the House and president of the Senate as required in House Bill 66.

                 Special enrollment opportunity begins Oct. 31

                Eligible state employees have the opportunity to sign up for three optional benefits – the Health Care Spending Account, Dependent Care Spending Account and long term care insurance – from Oct. 31 through Nov. 18.

                 Civil Service Review Commission makes recommendations

                At the end of the biennium, the Ohio House was considering a bill that will effectuate major changes in civil service reform for exempt employees. The bill is based in part on recommendations made by the Civil Service Review Commission in its report to the Ohio General Assembly on Dec. 31, 2001.

                 DAS launches pre-tax commuter benefits program

                State employees took advantage of a new pre-tax commuter benefits program during the biennium, with an average of more than 1,000 passes purchased monthly through the program.

                 DAS builds customer-focused Web site

                The DAS Web site was redesigned during fiscal year 2002 to better enable customers to find information. The customer-centric site, which is based on the State of Ohio Web portal, features multiple means of navigation.

                 Computer Purchase Plan, tuition reimbursement popular with exempts

                Exempt state employees now have the opportunity to purchase computers using interest-free loans due to a program implemented through the Exempt Professional Development Program.
